This project provided resource materials for equipment users, health service managers and donor organisations in developing countries. Six simple, practical guides will help to improve the effectiveness of health care technology management tasks on a daily operational level. Overall the project aimed to contribute to improved health care technology management in government, NGO, and private health care facilities. The project carried forward work from a previous DFID-funded Knowledge and Research project in which six practical health care technology management procedure guides were produced. The guides are designed as tools for various levels of health service personnel in developing countries in the daily management of equipment. In the new project the guides are to be disseminated to the intended beneficiaries in print and on CD-ROM and will also be available on websites. Examples of the guides' themes include how to develop a network of healthcare technology management teams; planning and budgeting; procuring and commissioning; and organising maintenance. The project will communicate lessons learned and promote the use of knowledge already generated. In addition, it will assist with the development of the components needed to operate a strong, efficient, and effective health care system. The project outputs: A series of six simple, practical, generic healthcare technology management procedure guides, published and disseminated to health service staff and donor organisations working in the government, NGO, and private sectors, as printed publications, on CD-ROM and as downloadable files from the Internet.
