A
Khandake Jahurul Alam
Alam Khandaker has been involved with the disability and development sector
since 1977. During this time he has worked for a number of years at the
Vocational Training Centre for the Blind, and also at the Village Research
and Service Centre. In 1998 together with a group of professionals he
set up the Centre for Services and Information on Disability. In recent
years he has run Inclusive Education and disability campaigns across Bangladesh.
He has worked at a policy level since 1991 and was active in drafting
the government’s national policy on disability which was approved
in 1995 and passed in parliament in 2001. Alam was also the Country Director
of ADD from 1993 to 1998 and since 1991 has been the president of the
National Forum of Organisations Working with People with Disabilities
in Bangladesh.
Bill Albert
Bill Albert has been active in the disability movement for almost 20 years.
He is a former chair of the International Committee of the British Council
of Disabled People. He is a co-director of the International Disability
Equality Agency based at the University of East Anglia and has been involved
with the Disability Knowledge and Research as an advisor and researcher.

Khoun Bunny
Khoun Bunny has varied experience of working with NGOs and international
organisations in Cambodia. His early experience was with rural development
organisations in Pursat Province and organisational development projects.
His more recent experience has been in the field of child labour with
the ILO and migrant female workers with UNIFEM, where he is currently
Country Director.

Gladys Charowa
Gladys Charowa has been involved in the disability movement since February
2002 when she set up the Disabled Women Support Organisation (DWSO). She
wanted to challenge the traditional view that there is nothing that can
be done to support women and girls who are spinally injured. DWSO works
alongside hospitals, often in rural areas, to provide support for individuals
and their families to become both physically and financially independent;
this includes training to sensitise the community, peer group education
and micro-finance projects. DWSO is one of the first disability organisations
to have projects in each of the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe.
Mussa Chiwaula
Mussa Chiwaula is the Executive Director of the Federation of Disability
Organisations in Malawi (FEDOMA). His work as a disability activist covers
a span of more than 20 years and is particularly experienced in disability
awareness raising, DPOs capacity building and disability policy. Mussa
Chiwaula co-ordinated the study on living conditions of persons with activity
limitations in Malawi as well as a study on effective HIV/AIDS and reproductive
health information for persons with disabilities.
Monsur Ahmed Choudhuri
Monsur Ahmed Choudhuri is based in Bangladesh and works for the Centre
for Services and Information on Disability. He has completed a number
of research projects looking at employment of people with disabilities,
inclusive education, information technology and the promotion of education
for children with disabilities through BRAC, a non-formal education approach.
Victore Cordeiro
Victore Cordeiro is the Programme Manager for Action Aid India. His research
experience includes qualifications in Participatory Rural Appraisal, action
research, community organisation and development, and monitoring and evaluation
of programmes.

Shivaram Deshpande
Shivaram Deshpande is the Programme Manager for Leonard Cheshire International,
based in India. His research experience includes organising and facilitating
Participatory Rural Appraisal methods, and using rural communication methods
such as street theatre, drama and music, as well as substantial programme
monitoring and evaluation.
Andrew K. Dube
Andrew “AK” Dube has a background in business studies and
development studies and is the Managing Director of Samaita Associates.
He is also Chairman of Samaita-Maita Development Services. He has more
than sixteen years experience in designing, managing, evaluating and monitoring
programmes in a range of fields including; business and entrepreneurial
development projects, human rights and development work in the disability
sector, policy related programmes, legal literacy and user rights, business
planning for commercial enterprises. He is currently in his final year
of an action-learning MBA degree.
Thompson Dube
Thompson Dube was a high school teacher prior to joining the Organisation
for Rural Associations for Progress (ORAP) in 1993. He is now ORAP’s
Research and Documentation Manager as well as the ORAP/WFP Programme Manager.
He is responsible for the coordination of four districts in Zimbabwe as
part of a humanitarian relief programme that has averted hunger and starvation
in Matabeleland North and South regions.
Mr. Dube is the Academic Director for the diploma programme in Disability
Studies for the Pan African Institute for Development Studies and has
a Master’s degree in International and Intercultural Management.

Arne H. Eide
Arne H. Eide is a Reseach Director at the Foundation for Scientific and
Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (SINTEF)
based in Oslo, Norway. He is also Professor in Rehabilitation at Sør-Trøndelag
University College. His professional background is from health and social
policy, social psychology and behavioural science. He has been working
internationally for the last 15 years in different parts of Africa, Middle
East and Asia. His special field of interest is disability statistics
and studies on living conditions among people with disabilities.

Steve Harknett
Steve Harnkett has nine years' experience working in disability-related
projects, research and consultancies in the Democratic Republic of Congo,
Uganda, Cambodia, Laos and the UK. His recent work has been to facilitate
the formation of the Disability Development Services Pursat (DDSP), an
innovative community-based organisation working with disabled people in
rural Cambodia.
Rabiul Hasan
Rabiul Hasan is based in Bangladesh at the Centre for Services and Information
on Disability and has been involved in the field of disability for 25
years. His research areas include working with street children, women
and adolescent girls with disabilities, employment of people with disabilities
in Bangladesh, inclusive education in Bangladesh, information technology
and the promotion of education for children with disabilities through
BRAC, a non-formal education approach.
Chum Hoeurn
Chum Hoeurn is a leg amputee working as a farmer in Pursat, Cambodia.
He is also a village disabled representative for his village, O Thkov.
Rachel Hurst
Rachel Hurst, OBE, is the Director of Disability Awareness in Action,
an international information network on disability and human rights. Since
1978, Rachel has worked locally, nationally and internationally in support
of actions to ensure disabled people’s rights through independent
living initiatives, research and evidence gathering and campaigning for
social change and the eradication of disablism.

Rachel Kachaje
Rachel Kachaje lives in Malawi and is Chairperson of the Southern Africa
Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD). She was previously the women’s
chairperson at SAFOD, and was instrumental in the establishment of the
Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (FEDOMA). She has received
an award from the Malawi Human Rights Commission for playing a leading
role in lobbying and advocating for the rights of disabled people. Rachel
Kachaje is a Commissioner in the National Aids Commission and a successful
business entrepreneur. She has been involved in the studies on living
conditions among people with disabilities in the region.
Maria Kett
Dr Maria Kett is a Research Fellow at the Leonard Cheshire Centre of Conflict
Recovery, University College London. She has extensive research experience
in China, Bosnia, Azerbaijan and Sri Lanka. Her particular interests include
the psychosocial impact of conflict and internal displacement. Maria is
not disabled herself, but is strongly committed to disabled peoples rights
and has benefited greatly from working with disabled partners.
Jeewan Kodithuwakku
Jeewan Kodithuwakku is an expert in community based rehabilitation of
people with disabilities attached to Navajeevana, Sri Lanka, where he
works as a field coordinator. He is a social worker and counsellor by
profession, with an interest in the social mobilisation of disadvantaged
people.
Rem Khy
Rem Khy has paraplegia. She is a domestic worker in her home in Pursat
province, Cambodia and also works as a peer counsellor for other paraplegics
through a programme of the Disability Development Services Pursat (DDSP).

Richard Light
Dr. Richard Light has worked as head of research at Disability Awareness
in Action (DAA) since 1997 having previously worked with the Policy Studies
Institute. He has worked on international research studies into access,
the environment, legislation and policy and is committed to a human rights
agenda. He is presently the NGO representative on the UK Delegation to
the Ad Hoc Committee elaborating on the UN convention on the rights of
disabled people.
Mitch Loeb
Mitch Loeb is a Senior Researcher at the Foundation for Scientific and
Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (SINTEF)
based in Oslo, Norway. He is an epidemiologist (MSc) with 25 years of
experience in epidemiological research methodology and the analysis of
statistical research data. He has extensive international experience,
and during the last 10 years has been working on disability related statistics,
in particular in Southern Africa.

Joshua Malinga
Joshua Malinga was a founder member of Disabled Peoples’ International
and chairperson from 1990-94 and 1998-2002. He has been a disability activist
and advocate since 1980 and has travelled widely and extensively on behalf
of disabled people. He has held leadership positions locally, regionally
and internationally on disabled people’s rights and has participated
in and promoted research into and gathered evidence of the status of disabled
people. He is presently studying for a master’s degree in disability
studies at the University of Cape Town.
Carol Miller
Dr Carol Miller is a UK based independent consultant with over 15 years
experience including; gender audits, evaluations, gender frameworks and
analytical tools, impact assessment of policy advocacy, gender and diversity
policy development, research, writing and editing.
Forward Mlotshwa
Forward Mlotshwa is the Training Officer at the National Federation of
People with Disabilities in Namibia (NFDPN) and involved with International
Cooperation for Development (ICD). Previously he held positions with the
National Council of Disabled People of Zimbabwe (NCDPZ), Southern Africa
Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD), and Pan African Federation of the
Disabled (PAFOD). His has carried out research in connection with the
national study on living conditions among people with disabilities in
Namibia.
Chintha Munasinghe
Chintha Munasinghe is the Sri Lanka Programme Manager of BasicNeeds, an
international development organisation working in the social integration
of people with mental health disabilities with high degree of community
participation. Chintha is a development professional in the areas of small
enterprise development and communication. Chintha is an advocate in the
mental health sector and a Trustee of the Cheshire Foundation of Ceylon,
established to support people with disabilities.

Jabulani M Ncube
Jabulani M Ncube has twenty years disability and development experience,
including; NGO management, strategy and program development, monitoring,
review and evaluation, consultancy and advice, mediation and conflict
transformation, and wide experience in conference and workshop coordination,
facilitation, report writing and editing.

Isabel Ortiz
Isabel Ortiz has extensive experience in poverty reduction, including
strengthening institutional operations, as part of her work at the Asian
Development Bank's Poverty Reduction Unit. Additionally she has been working
in disability issues in a main project in 2001-2002. A major focus was
the link between poverty and disability, and the way to integrate disability
into development operations

Long Pha
Long Pha has a polio-related moving impairment. He is a farmer and part-time
motorbike repairer in Pursat, Cambodia. Previously he worked in a silk-weaving
project in Preah Vihear, Cambodia.
Alexander Phiri
Alexander Phiri has been the Secretary General of the Southern Africa
Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD) since 1993. He has a long record of
involvement in disability issues in Zimbabwe including the formation of
the National Council for Disabled Persons of Zimbabwe (NCDPZ) and the
formulation of the Disabled Persons Act, Zimbabwe. Currently Alexander
Phiri is Acting Chairman of the National Association of NGOs in Zimbabwe,
Executive Committee Member of NCDPZ and Commonwealth Committee Chairman
of Disabled Peoples International (DPI).
Priyantha Peiris
Priyantha Peiris is President of the Spinal Injuries Association, based
in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has many years experience working with disabled
people and DPOs and is actively involved in the ‘Access for All’
campaign for accessible reconstruction following the tsunami. His academic
background is in International Relations, which he studied at Moscow university.

Sayeda Asma Rashida
Sayeda Asma Rashida has been working in the field of disability for over
four years in Bangladesh at the Centre for Services and Information on
Disability. Sayeda Asma Rashida has a degree in special education. Syeda
was central to the recent research ‘Together in Education’,
promoting the education of children with disabilities through BRAC –
a non-formal education approach.
Trine Cecilie Riis-Hansen
Trine Cecilie Riis-Hansen has worked with the Atlas Alliance since 2004,
mainly lobbying on issues such as disability and development. He is the
vice chair for the board of directors of the Norwegian Umbrella organisation
"Forum for Environment and Development". Trine left Norway in
1986 and worked with the Norwegian People’s Aid Cambodia. He moved
to Ethiopia in 1999 and worked with the Royal Norwegian Embassy. Back
in Norway Trine completed a course in development studies where he wrote
two reports on disability issues in development and the follow-up of the
Norwegian White Paper on inclusion of disabled persons in Norwegian development
co-operation.
Gert van Rooy
Gert van Rooy is a social scientist and Head of Social Sciences Division
at the University of Namibia where he has been employed as researcher
for the last 12 years. His area of speciality is poverty measurements.
He co-ordinated the study on living conditions among people with disabilities
in Namibia.

Cyril Siriwardane
Cyril Siriwardane works full-time in the disability field in Sri Lanka.
He is a member of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities and
works for Motivation in Sri Lanka as an advocacy project manager. He is
Secretary General of the Disability Organizations Joint Front, Vice President
of the Spinal Injuries Association, Honorary Secretary of the Sri Lanka
Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, and Honorary Secretary
of the Colombo Friend-in-need society. He has qualifications in aviation
electronics and telecommunication engineering and was in the Sri Lanka
Air Force for 37 years.
Meas Sokha
Meas Sokha, Cambodia is a community-based rehabilitation (CBR) worker
with DDSP with about two years' experience with the organisation. She
was previously a student of Management.
Sue Stubbs
Sue Stubbs is a freelance disability and development consultant, currently
working as Coordinator of the International Disability and Development
Consortium, UK. She is a non-disabled person who was profoundly affected
by having a disabled mother. Her research experience includes a research-based
master’s degree on Inclusive Education in Lesotho, plus a range
of projects during 10 years of work as the disability policy advisor with
Save the Children, and more recently as the IDDC coordinator.

Mom Thea
Mom Thea is a domestic worker in her home in Prohoas Kbal village, Pursat
province, Cambodia. She has learning difficulties and a mild mobility
impairment.
Philippa Thomas
Phillippa Thomas worked for four years in Cambodia where she helped The
Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to set up inclusive education.
On her return, she completed a Masters in Social Policy at Social Development
with her dissertation focusing on Engaging Disability with Development.
She was the Disability Knowledge and Research Policy Officer between February
2004 and June 2005. She is now working as the Head of Advocacy and Development
Education at Plan UK and researching into issues of child rights and social
protection.
Tjiueza Tjombumbi
Tjiueza Tjombumbi lives in Namibia and is Disability Advisor to the Prime
Minister in Namibia.

Thim Veasna is a farmer in Prey Veang village, Pursat province, Cambodia,
and also works as a motorbike taxi-driver. A double amputee, he is the
village disabled chairman for Prey Veang village.

Rebecca Yeo
Rebecca Yeo is based in the UK and currently works as a freelance consultant
on disability and international development issues. Prior to this she
worked at Action on Disability and Development for eight years. Whilst
at ADD she carried out extensive research on the ways that disabled people
are excluded from international development agencies and the work they
do.
