8. National
Rehabilitation Information Centre (NARIC)
www.naric.com
Hosts five databases that can be searched by subject. These are: current
research (NIDRR Programme Directory), current literature (REHABDATA 1995-present),
historical literature (REHABDATA Backfile), NIDRR-funded literature (NIDRR
Compendium), and information sources (NARIC Knowledge Base). REHABDATA
is the leading literature database on disability and rehabilitation with
over 12,000 documents covering physical, mental, and psychiatric disabilities,
independent living, vocational rehabilitation, law, employment and other
issues concerning disabled people. Visitors can search each database using
keywords. Alternatively, browse the NARIC databases by choosing a subject
from the list of 47 most frequently requested information topics. Under
each topic users can find various types of information, such as research
literature, magazines, newsletters and journals, websites and Internet
resources, and membership and service organisations. Although much of
the literature referenced originates in the USA, the topic 'International
Rehabilitation' is a good starting point to identify journal articles
and reports relevant to the developing country context. Full text documents
are not available, though NARIC does offer a document retrieval service
for certain journal articles referenced in REHABDATA. The cost for this
service is US$0.50 per page for copying plus shipping and handling.
